THE CITY OF JAMESTOWN ANNOUNCES AWARD OF FEDERAL GRANT TO THE JAMESTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT
JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK – August 16, 2024 – The City of Jamestown is pleased to announce that the Jamestown Fire Department has been awarded $330,270.00 in federal grant money through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). This funding was made possible through the efforts of Congressman Nick Langworthy, who announced today that Jamestown is one of four fire departments selected for these vital grants.
The grant will support the purchase of new equipment, including 32 NFPA Air-Paks and 26 Kevlar Headnets, which are essential for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of our firefighters. Mayor Kim Ecklund expresses the importance of this grant, stating, “It is crucial that we promote the health and safety of all of our firefighters. This grant enables us to purchase equipment for the replacement of current equipment that is nearing the end of its life use. Our firefighters risk their lives and deserve to have the best equipment that provides the best protection. Their safety comes with priority and responsibility.”
This funding marks a significant investment in the future of Jamestown’s firefighters, ensuring that they have the resources they need to protect the community and themselves effectively. The City of Jamestown extends its gratitude to Congressman Langworthy and the federal government for their continued support of local fire departments and the City of Jamestown.
