To Request Trimming or Removal of a City Tree:
- Identify the Concern: If you notice a city tree that appears to be in need of trimming or removal due to safety concerns or other issues, take note of its location and any specific problems observed.
- Contact the Parks Department: Reach out to the Parks Department at (716) 483-7547 or (716) 483-7573 to report the issue and request action. Provide them with as much detail as possible about the tree and the reason for your concern.
- Arborist Inspection: An arborist from the Parks Department will conduct an inspection of the tree to assess its health and any potential risks it may pose. Based on their evaluation, they will determine whether trimming or removal is necessary.
- Scheduled Action: If the tree is found to be structurally unsound or poses a hazard, it will be scheduled for removal. However, if trimming can address the issue, that will be scheduled instead. Trimming activities may include removing dead wood, clearing wires, raising low branches, or eliminating limbs too close to buildings.
- Priority & Timing: Please understand that the Parks Department has limited staff available for tree work, and priority is given to addressing dangerous situations. Depending on the urgency of the issue and the workload of the department, it may take some time between your request and the completion of the work.
- Follow-Up & Additional Information: For any additional information or inquiries regarding the tree trimming or removal process, feel free to contact the Parks Department. Additionally, for details about the tree-trimming program conducted by the Electric Division of the Board of Public Utilities, visit the Jamestown BPU website.
Remember, trees are valuable community assets, and efforts are made to manage them responsibly while ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
