Tonight, Mayor Eddie Sundquist, City Council President Tony Dolce, and members of the Public Safety Committee announced new hires for both the Jamestown Police Department (JPD) and the Jamestown Fire Department (JFD).
Three new police officer positions, with a focus on gun violence prevention and quality of life issues will be added to JPD. In addition, a new Gun Violence unit will be created.
Four new firefighters will also be hired, with the intention of purchasing a second ambulance for JFD.
These investments will be funded through American Rescue Plan funds.
Mayor Sundquist said in a statement, “I thank the City Council for approving investments into our Public Safety departments totaling millions of dollars. These investments into gun violence prevention and EMS are vital to our community.”
President Dolce said in a statement, “The Council and Administration took important steps today to address these pressing problems in Jamestown. This funding was what the American Rescue Plan intended for, and I applaud everyone involved for getting this done so quickly.”
Public Safety Chairman Councilman Brent Sheldon said in a statement, “The collaborative process between Mayor Sundquist, President Dolce, and Public Safety Committee showed that we can get real results for Jamestown residents. These investments demonstrate a real commitment to improving public safety throughout Jamestown.”
