The purpose of the Urban Design Plan Update (UDP 2.0) is to revise the original Urban Design Plan, which was finalized in 2006. The Urban Design Plan resulted from collaborative efforts among government, civic, foundation, and community partners to develop a comprehensive strategy to guide downtown initiatives. The legacy of the original plan includes the transformation of the downtown riverfront into a vibrant community destination, the establishment of the National Comedy Center as a world-class attraction, renewed optimism about downtown’s future, and increased private sector investment.
While significant progress has been achieved through the collective efforts of numerous individuals and organizations, downtown Jamestown still has considerable untapped potential. Decades of disinvestment in downtown Jamestown have accumulated, and it will require sustained efforts over the long term to achieve a full renaissance. The upcoming decade will be critical for maintaining downtown’s current positive momentum. The new plan, titled Urban Design Plan 2.0, builds upon the themes that have guided change over the past decade while also capitalizing on new opportunities made possible by recent successes.
