Local Preservation Ordinance (LPO):
Expanding upon the notable historic preservation achievements, the next crucial step in advancing the City’s preservation efforts is the adoption of a local preservation ordinance (LPO). While national-level designation offers financial benefits for homeowners, local-level designation provides essential protections for identified or contributing structures. At the local level, preservation enables neighborhoods to establish character or reclaim identities. These attributes, combined with federal incentives available for maintenance, repairs, and improvements, provide property owners with a robust toolkit to cultivate pride of place, enhance quality of life, and consequently increase the value of their investment.
