JAMESTOWN, NY – November 15, 2024 – The City of Jamestown is excited to reveal that this year’s official Christmas Tree will be a beautiful 40-foot Norway Spruce, generously donated by Woodlawn Management Real Estate. This wonderful tree will be harvested from a lot on King Street, right in the heart of Jamestown, and will stand tall as a symbol of holiday cheer for the entire community.
The City’s Parks, Recreation & Conservation Department will oversee the tree’s removal, with critical assistance provided by the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) crew and crane. Following the harvest, the tree will be carefully loaded onto a truck and trailer donated and operated by Lake Shore Paving, who have graciously offered their time and equipment to transport it to City Hall.
Once on Tracy Plaza, the BPU crane will hoist the tree into place, where it will be securely installed and prepared for decoration. The Parks Department staff will then embellish the Norway Spruce with over 3,000 energy-efficient LED lights, ensuring it becomes a vibrant centerpiece of the holiday season. Towering approximately 40 feet above its base, the tree will illuminate the heart of Jamestown and bring joy to all who visit.
The tree’s harvest is tentatively planned for Monday, November 18th, at 9:00 a.m., with its arrival at City Hall expected around 10:00 a.m.
The ceremonial lighting of the Christmas Tree will take place during this year’s Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 7th, marking the official start of the holiday season in Jamestown. The lighting ceremony is a long-standing tradition that unites the community in celebration and holiday spirit.
