City Council President Tony Dolce and Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist announced today that William R. Reynolds III will be the new Ward 5 Councilman, replacing Grant Olson. Reynolds is a life-time resident of Chautauqua County, with significant experience in local government across the County.
Reynolds was previously the Town Supervisor for the Town of North Harmony from 1989 – 2004, the DPW Streets Superintendent for the Village of Bemus Point from 2011 – 2016, served as a Jamestown Police Detective from 1984 until his retirement in 2004, and served in the Marine Corps. He has held various positions in the community, including as a Director of the American Legion, Post 1286, Vice President and Trustee of the Lakeview Cemetery Association, a Corporate Director for Chautauqua Patrons Insurance Company, and was previously a past President of both the Fenton Historical Society (he is the great-great-great grandson of Governor Reuben E. Fenton) and of the Chautauqua County Mayors and Supervisors Association. He lives in Jamestown with his wife Deborah, and has four adult children.
Reynolds said in a statement, “I thank Council President Dolce and Mayor Sundquist for giving me the opportunity to serve Jamestown once again. I have dedicated my life to public service and I am excited to bring my knowledge of the area to City Council. As a lifetime Chautauqua County resident who has served as a Chief Executive of a town, as well as numerous other positions in public life, I know I have the experience to be a public leader in our community. I look forward to bringing forward a number of new ideas and working with Council and the Mayor to help improve Jamestown for all residents.”
Council President Dolce said, “I am incredibly excited to be working with Bill. I have served with him in the community and I know his experience and expertise in all levels of local government will make him a valuable asset to the Jamestown City Council. I can think of no one more qualified to serve.”
Mayor Sundquist said, “Bill is an excellent choice to serve on Council. The amount of experience and goodwill from the community he brings to the table is immense. As a former Jamestown Police Detective, he is acutely aware of the issues we face in the City. I welcome him back into public service in Jamestown, and I know he will be an enormous resource to our City Council. I look forward to working with him to make Jamestown even better.”
Reynolds will take office in a special voting session to be held before the February 7th meeting of City Council.
